NRA Chair Craig Miller (CEO Ruth`s Chris) meets with Hawaii Lt. Governor Duke Aiona along with HRA Chair Bill Tobin (Tiki`s), and HRA Government Relations Committee CO-Chairs Victor Lim (McDonald`s) & Tom Jones (Gyotaku).
 
Hawaii`s Minimum Wage & Tip Credit = Wage Disparity
HB3209 failed to be heard by the House Finance Committee before the first lateral. It was passed by House Labor and Business & Ecomomic Development Committees Feb 6th, 2006 with ammendments that would require employers to direct 50% of the tip credit savings to "Back Of The House" employees. HB1134 SD1 is stil alive from last year. However, Senator Taniguchi, Senate Ways & Means Chair, indicated that further hearings and ammendments for HB1134 are unlikely this session.
 
Gift Card & Certificate Regulations
HB3084 may regulate the period of time that gift cards & certificates are valid and prohibit maintenance or service fees. HB1980/SB2096 exlcudes multi-purpose cards.
 
Mandatory Meal Breaks
Legislation HB338 requiring rest of meal break periods of 30 consecutive minutes after 5 or more continuous hours was passed during the last session of the legislature. Governor Lingle vetoed the proposal and it did not become law.
 
Workers Compensation
A recent national study ranks Hawaii THIRD highest in the entire nation in workers’ compensation premiums.
